Blogs – very competitive, success will be had in very niche subject areas. And larger more popular subjects require more content to rise up, may need teams of writers.
Online Store – very competitive, Success can still be had with products of significant improvements over current market leaders, eCommerce stores have changed policies to favor top sellers and Amazon has revised display of feedback that could help highly reviewed new sellers compete better with established sellers. States will now be able to tax certain purchase from out of state sellers over a certain price. Drop-shipping is becoming difficult as eCommerce platforms find ways to stop drop shipping.
Online Courses – still significant frontier when it comes to higher cost disciplines.
Social Media – still room for roaming marketing agents, that are really passionate about what they post and truthful to their followers.
Affiliate Marketing – subject discussed in seperate article.
Freelancing – mostly successful for advanced writers, international accountants, and web developers, better success for traditional service/contractor professions most recent opportunity is still by having own company but some opportunity may had developed on Amazon Services.

How Does It Work?
Writers with good sources create original content around a subject, over time as the website becomes more specialized and informative to customers, the website starts to gain organic internet traffic that coupled with an advertisement 3rd party agreement; creates pay per view and click of advertising on sites. Advertising is not the only way as a website with organic traffic could be absorbed into a ecommerce store.
What do I need?
You need a 3rd party to host your site, or you need to host your own site, which is more on the costly side. WordPress, blogger, BigCommerce.

Online stores
How Does It Work?
You open a store online to sell items. People need to be able to place orders securely. Later, you can develop, grow, or sustain the business.
What do I need?
A host for your website/eCommerce store, or your own site, developed with an infrastructure to securely accept payments, and securely protect user data per government regulations. PayPal, BigCommerce, SquareSpace
Due to federal regulations you will need to report income respective to the requirements for a business of your structure (sole proprietorship, LLC, or Corporation)
Due to product liability law, you need to make sure your products meet federal agency regulations and standards of safety and other quality expectations. (e.g products like electronics, food, or of plastic, metal composition, etc.)
Patience, there is allot of trouble starting an online store, read all about it.

How Does It Work?
Similar to blog you make an account then create relevant content that draws viewers once a certain volume of viewers is met consistantly you can start earning per view or click. YouTube

How Does It Work?
You create online courses for people to pay to use or for a company to pay you per user.

Social Media
How Does It Work?
Once you have a social media account with many followers or those following your posts, you can start being paid for product placement, ads, or commissioned marketing projects. You make allot of followers and then market to companies who sell something your audience would like to place their ads in your stream for compensation. You can actually make a small living by receiving products from a company and taking photos showcasing products and posting then in your accounts

How Does It Work?
You make a website to be a portal to draw in potential clients, you take the job and get paid for services, no middle man.
