YouTube has allowed individuals to publish original content on a channel with the potential to enough visitors to build a following.  Many YouTube channels started from people really delving into their interest or passion.  It is difficult to make money on YouTube without an excessive amount of views, but once it happens, it is a ride that could provide some additional income.  One could still create content to build their brand equity, the value of loyalty received from customers.  Businesses could store content to attribute to their business, or place ads to generate revenue.  So without Further delay, here is a list of YouTube Channels, a description of their content, and the significance of the channel to entrepreneurs.

Epic Rap Battles of History 

Description

Actors dress as historical figures and perform rap battles, at the end asking viewers to comment which rap they thought was best.  The content is often inspired by historical facts to create entertaining educational content.  The channel does a great job choosing to pit historical figures that are similar to create interesting match-ups and incorporating facts.

Significance

This channel showcases the ability to create content from the talents of the creators, being able to create raps and conduct research into historical and popular culture.  The content also requires them to research historical facts and provide comedic, yet factual commentary.

Individual / Personal Accounts

Description

Personal Accounts can be one of the most diverse strategies towards a channel.  Individuals can create different types of content to build a following for their social media accounts.  Individual accounts can have the name of the person, a pen-name, or the name of a brand or project.  Some accounts see the content creator, play characters they can write short stories for.  Many content creators also write situational comedy shorts as a sort of commentary or satire behind specific types of social interactions, relationships, or public events.  The YouTube Channel Josh Leyva has some videos where the writer plays different personalities of a cholo, a famous person, among many others.  Content creator PewDiePie, originally started streaming  his reactions as he played video-games, and gained a huge following eventually making his channel a personal account.

Significance

Having a YouTube account under a pen-name or brand can be used with social media accounts to build a following for a brand.  Social Media accounts with significant followers can charge to apply ads to their streams.  The main importance is that personal accounts can be used to attribute a certain experience to the content creator that can be referenced in interviews.

Games Done Quick

Description

Games Done Quick is a charity organization that brings together the communities around speed-runs, and video-game streams.  A Speed-run is the process of completing a game as fast as possible, speed-runs have limitations of any percent, 100% completion, glitches allowed or none.  Individuals often stream themselves speed-running video games for a certain category.    Streamers sign up to speed-run games and community members donate to the organization.  The organization later uploads the speed-runs to it’s channels.

Significance

You may not have known of a community around speed-running video games.  Yet, there was, and enough so an event was able to form around it.  This YouTube Channel should show entrepreneurs how individuals can creatively engage in their interests and hobbies.  Many popular streamers have their own channels they publish content too.

Cinema Sins

Description

This is a channel that provides commentary around movies.  Most of the commentary is around the way the film tells the story, cliches in the movie and fact checks/historical context and facts to a lesser extent.  This channel specifically critics movies in reference to the strength and cohesion of story-writing.

Significance

This channel shows a way someone can create content with commentary around popular movies.  When someone uses content from another source, you do have to make sure you identify the owner of the content and make sure it is for an approved purpose like commentary or educational purpose.

How It’s Made

Description

This is a documentary channel creating informative content around how products are made.  The videos often follow the general steps around acquiring raw materials and processes to finish products.

Significance

The content creator used to product the documentaries for television, and now archives their episodes and puts them out for viewing on YouTube.  Other similar channels have developed making similar types of videos in a different formats.

Reaction Channels

Description

For comedic purposes some channels started on YouTube with filming people’s reactions to popular culture events and new media.  Many of these accounts were some of the top performing accounts of the past.

Significance

This channel was able to build enough of a following and views, so they can paid by finding a comedic angle to product content from.  Many other channels have had similar success surprising everyday people with a comedic situation or proposition.

Sport Highlights Channels

Description

Certain sports associations and leagues post reviews and highlights on games.  Other channels create commentary and player analysis’ content around the original content on games.

Significance

Some individuals have made a small following commentating around sport content.  Another interest that could help create content.

Calvin Harris / All Musicians

Description

Musicians release music videos for listeners who use the YouTube platform to listen to their music.  It is important to do this or other individuals will be able to publish the songs on their account.

Significance

Musicians can get a good public response if publishing their content on YouTube when first starting into the music business.

Screen Junkies

Description

Content creators create commentary around popular movies, but allow viewers to comment to suggest the next movie.

Significance

An interest in movies has allowed this content creator to create a following for this channel and brand.

College Humor

Description

Creates comedic content around social situations, popular culture, and satire.  The content is targeted at a wide range of target markets.

Significance

If you love shows such as SNL, Tonight shows and can write or produce comedic content; College Humor is an example that you do not have to be large organization or production firm to be successful in comedy writing.

Business Casual

Description

Business Casual is a YouTube channel that studies the history behind big businesses, and popular successes.  The channel also gives viewers the chance to donate through Patreon, and places ads in the beginning of their content.

Significance

Business Casual is an example that an entrepreneur or individual can create a following with a genuine interest and good research.  You could eventually have companies pay you to place an ad or product placement into the beginning of the content to generate an additional income stream.

Jordan Peterson

Description

Dr. Jordan Peterson is a Professor of Psychology, Clinical Psychologist, Public Speaker and Self Author from Toronto Canada.  He creates content that analyzes content from various books, including the one I found him through, the bible, and sections of some videos regarding his lectures and research.

Significance

Jordan Peterson has shown how some success can be had with self-authoring.  Other channels use Peterson’s content to create commentary around certain popular culture events.  One of the favorite types of content Dr. Peterson creates is his Patreon Q and A videos.  The professor shows how a professional can broaden their reach to individuals interested in their serve, where JP self-authoring can allow hosts to connect to their viewers so they can ask questions and receive a response.  Many channels offer Patreon accounts so viewers can donate to their favorite content creators.
